SEED AND FEEDER PREFERENCES OF WILD BIRDS IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA -
FACT SHEET
Background: Over 50 million Americans and Canadians over the age of 16 watch and feed wild birds around their homes and spend more than 2 billion dollars on birdseed alone. While several studies have examined seed and feeder preferences, the most important questions have not yet been adequately answered. The Wild Bird Feeding Industry to conduct the seminal scientific study on seed and feeder perferences of wild birds in the United States and Canada. Upon completion of this study, WBFI members will know the seed and feeder preferences of common backyard birds in the United States and Canada.
Highlights: The study will be continent-wide in scope and provide advice to WBFI members specific to most regions of the continent during different seasons of the year. The study will begin Fall 2005 and continue through Summer 2008. During the first year of the study, a smaller number of participants will be used to ensure that the study's experimental design allows us to answer our research questions.
