“I opened my first Wild Bird Center about 10 years ago and enjoyed it so much I opened up a second one about 5 years later and I just enjoy waking up in the morning and going to work. It’s exciting!”
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What kind of person becomes a Wild Bird Center Franchisee?
A: Wild Bird Center franchisees are people who have been successful in prior careers and are searching for a way to make a good living on a smaller, more human scale. What our franchisees have in common is a passion for business coupled with a love of nature and birds.
Q: Do I need to be an expert on wild birds?
A: A general interest in nature is helpful and enthusiasm for backyard birding is essential, however you need not be an expert. Our customers are the casual backyard bird watcher and feeder. It is part of your training to learn about the common backyard birds and wildlife which will allow you to answer with authority most customer questions.
Q: What personal qualities will help me succeed?
A: You must have the determination, creativity and flexibility to apply a proven system of operation to your local situation to make it work successfully. Personal communication skills, the ability to project a love of nature and people as well as the willingness to pay attention to the mechanics of the business are essential to its growth and success.
Q: Do I need prior business experience?
A: Although great experience to have, this is not the usual reason to partner with a franchise organization. We provide almost 25 years experience operating wild bird retail stores and so will provide you with the knowledge necessary to be successful. This knowledge is conveyed through a comprehensive training program and continuing support that covers marketing, business operations, merchandising, education, location, etc. Sharing our historic and national experience with you is a critical reason why your opportunity to succeed is greater with our company.
Q: May I own more than one store?
A: Absolutely! Multiple franchise ownership is encouraged.
Q: Typically, how long does it take to open my store?
A: The time required depends on site availability. In general, it takes three to six months to open your franchise.
Q: Are exclusive and protective territories awarded?
A: Yes! Your exclusive territory is protected and defined in your franchise agreement by mapped zip or postal codes.
Q: If a market already has a Wild Bird Center, are there opportunities to purchase an established store?
