Attending the Central Valley Birding Symposium was exciting and educational. I recorded 106 individual species in one weekend and discovered Digiscoping.

If you haven't tried this you should, it's easy. It is the technique of taking a digital picture through a scope or as I did in the field through my binoculars.

Just zoom out your digital camera all the way so it is zoomed in completely. Now the tricky part, focus on the subject through your scope or binoculars and press the camera lens against your optics eyepiece. Remember to get the circle to fill your camera, you can fine tune focus by looking into the lcd screen of your camera and then press the shutter
This is a Burrowing Owl pair taken on our August Bird Walk through the Alpen Digiscope setup.

Yes it really works and I got great pics of a Kestral, Sandhill Cranes, Red Tailed Hawk, Burrowing Owls, Stilts, Sandpipers, a Kite and many others.

Try, try, and try and you will discover a very cool way of storing your experiences.

We now have Alpens digiscoping set up to add to your scope!

See you in the field!
