Community Educational Programs
The Wild Bird Center of Masons goal is to be THE ultimate nature resource for our community. We strive to help people learn about, understand, and appreciate the wonderful world of nature. We offer a variety of educational programs, classes, seminars, and field trips for people of all ages.
The Wild Bird Center of Mason offers an entire staff dedicated to nature, conservation, and education. Their team includes a Naturalist, Zoologist, Biologist, and Environmental Scientist who are available to answer any questions you have about the many wonderful mysteries of Mother Nature.
Youth Programs
The Wonderful World of Birds An introduction to the many different kinds of birds. Includes basic bird biology, bird diet, habitats, migration, and nesting habits. Includes hands on activities and audience participation. The program content is adjusted for age groups ranging from pre-school to sixth grade. No fee.
Build Your Own Bird Feeder Loud, noisy, and fun. This hands on program allows children to make their own bird feeder to decorate and take home. A short discussion on birds, bird feeding, and bird seed kicks off the activity. A small fee is requested to cover the cost of materials.
Build Your Own Bird House An exciting hands on program that helps children build their own bird house from a kit. Children learn about nesting, roosting, and caring for a bird house during the four seasons. There is a fee to cover the cost of materials.
Nesting Balls A fun and messy project that allows children to make their own nesting balls for birds to use during nesting season. Children learn about the different kinds of nests, nesting materials, and location of nests. No fee.
Butterflies, Birds & Bugs All of our favorite nature B words. The program provides an overview of butterflies, birds, and bugs. We will discuss what they eat and how they eat, live, move, and co-exist in nature. Children also learn how to create a Nature Journal for tracking their experiences with nature. No fee.
Bizarre Birds A lively discussion on birds with strange looks and odd behaviors. The course includes Odd Bills, Unusual Water Birds, endangered birds and many more. No fee.
Beginning Birding (Field Program) This comprehensive program covers bird basics and an introduction to bird watching. Content includes The Wonderful World of Birds with bird identification techniques, journaling, optics basics, and nature photography. The program concludes with a Bird Walk. A small fee is requested to cover the cost of a disposable camera and journaling materials. Adults will need to provide transportation to the designated nature spot.
Bird Walk (Field Program) Enjoy a walk in nature with one of our resident experts to learn about nature identification (visual and audio), tracking, and journaling. Adults will need to provide transportation to designated nature spot. No fee.
Nature Arts & Crafts You decide the agenda with our resident environmental artist. Make painted glass sun catchers, eggshell gardens, nature origami, garden stepping stones, nature journals, or edible bird feeders. A small fee is requested to cover the cost of materials.

Adult Programs
Birds of the Rainbow An introduction to the many different birds found in Ohio. Content covers Cardinals, Orioles, American Goldfinches, Ruby Throated Hummingbird, Blue Birds, Purple Martins, and more. Includes basic bird biology, bird diet, habitats, migration, nesting habits, and identification techniques. Appropriate for beginners and intermediate birders. No fee.
Birds of Prey What makes a raptor a raptor? An all time favorite discussion that includes discussion about eagles, hawks, kites, falcons, harriers, buzzards, vultures, and owls. The discussion also includes human impact on birds of prey. No fee.
Creating a National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat Receive advice and tips on design and goals of a wildlife habitat. The four components of a habitat are discussed along with how to apply for official NWF certification for your habitat. Seasonal bird habitat maintenance is also covered. No fee.
Bats in the Belfry Lecture covers Bat basics, Bat species & biology, how Bats benefit humans, how to help Bats in your backyard, and Bat houses. A class not just for the Halloween season. No fee.

Becoming a Purple Martin Landlord Not just for the feint of heart, Purple Martin management can be a full time job. Learn what to expect, the benefits, and how to set up a system and attract your first colony. Only patience required. No fee.

Nature Photography (Field Program) Spend time with a National Geographic photographer and Wild Bird Center biologist to learn the tricks of the trade. Bring your fancy camera and learn how to use it! No fee.
